Claudia Mills is the author of over 60 books for young reader, including most recently middle-grade novels Zero Tolerance and Write This Down and two chapter-book series: “Franklin School Friends” and “After-School Superstars.” Her books have been named Notable Books of the Year by the American Library Association and Best Books of the Year by the Bank Street College of Education and have been translated into half a dozen languages. Claudia is also a faculty member in the graduate programs in children’s literature at Hollins University.
School Visit Topics & Activities
MY PRESENTATIONS are designed to get kids excited about writing. I begin by sharing some of my own childhood writing and then show how I take real events from my own life and shape them into stories that may take a very different form. I give an in-depth look at the process of writing, tracing a book from idea through successive drafts, critique from my local writers' group, and then the challenging final critique from my editor. I want students to see that all authors have to revise and revision is often the most satisfying part of the process.
